The Royal Ballet’s Giselle

Posted in Home > Highlights > The Royal Ballet’s Giselle

In this spellbinding 2006 performance, The Royal Ballet injects new life into one of the greatest and most technically demanding romantic ballets of all time.

An all-star cast of dancers, including rising stars Alina Cojocaru and Johann Kobborg, tell the tragic story of peasant girl Giselle who is driven to suicide when she discovers that her one true love has betrayed her. Rising from the grave to torment the man she loved, the spirit of Giselle comes upon her repenting lover and instead resolves to protect him from supernatural threats.

Acclaimed set designer John Macfarlane delivers a haunting backdrop to sublime choreography by Marius Petipa and Peter Wright.
