Yesterday the world was saddened to hear the news that Ray Manzarek, founding member of The Doors, passed away after a battle with cancer. He was 74.
Manzarek founded The Doors after meeting then-poet Jim Morrison in California. The band went on to become one of the most successful rock ‘n’ roll acts to emerge from the 1960s, and redefined Los Angeles as a city of sin and psychedelics.
Manzarek’s electric organ was a defining aspect next to Morrison’s booming voice in the band’s blues and jazz influenced take on rock and roll.
STUDIO pays tribute to this musical legend with a special screening of ‘The Doors: Total Rock Review’ this evening at 5.30pm.
