How is Graeme Murphy revitalising the world’s best known love story into a fresh new retelling?
In the lead-up to the world premiere of The Australian Ballet’s new production of Romeo & Juliet, step behind the curtain and into the studio as Graeme Murphy works with the dancers to choreograph each elegant step.
In this STUDIO ArtBreak, Graeme discusses the process of telling the narrative without words, through the genre of dance. “What I love is the challenge of finding a new way of interpreting a story which has been reinterpreted a million times,” he says. “The challenge now is to find a way that excites a new audience.”
You can see every step and feel every spin when STUDIO broadcasts the entire production, live from Melbourne’s Art Centre, on Wednesday 21 September.
